Best Places To Go Hang Gliding In The United States
Let’s start off by taking a look at the best places to go hang gliding within the United States. Don’t get me wrong, international hang gliding is absolutely incredible, and there are definitely some places outside of the country that you don’t want to miss out on. But if you’re like me (and most people), international trips are much more rare than staying within the borders.
Plus with all of that said, the United States has some absolutely amazing places for hang gliding. Places that easily compare with some of the world’s best locations outside of the US. So you can have the hang gliding experiences of a lifetime without ever even having to leave the country. Some of my most enjoyable and awe-inspiring flights have taken place in the US, so I know from experience how amazing some of these locations are.
Without further ado, here are the best locations for hang gliding in the United States.
Big Sur Coastline, California

If you're looking for breathtaking views while hang gliding then look no further than the Big Sur coastline in California. This area is known for its rugged coastline and steep cliffs. You'll be able to see an abundance of wildlife while you're up in the air, as well as some beautiful views! That said, launching a hang glider (and gliding, for that matter) is not legal over public beaches or in some other areas in California, so be sure to check all local laws before taking off!
The Great Plains (Kansas)

The Great Plains of Kansas is another great place to go hang gliding. This area is known for its wide-open spaces and lack of trees, making it the perfect place to take off and land your glider. The weather here is usually mild with little wind, making it an ideal spot for beginners. You'll also be able to see some beautiful sunsets while you're up in the air!
Mount Washington, New Hampshire

Mount Washington is one of the highest peaks in New England at an elevation of over 6,280 feet. The weather can get pretty rough here with high winds and snowfall, but if you're looking for a challenge then this might just be what you need! There are many hiking trails that lead up to the top so it's easy enough for anyone who wants to try their hand at hang gliding from such heights.
This location is not for beginners, but anyone looking for a challenge should give Mount Washington a visit.
